Rapid population growth has increased the demand of endocrine disruptor Bisphenol A (BPA) nowadays. Disposal of BPA into water bodies can cause health hazard to human. Hence, activated carbons prepared from chia seed was prepared for the adsorption of endocrine disruptor Bisphenol A from aqueous solutions. The chia seed was undergone 200 ℃ hydrothermal carbonization at first then activated with KOH at ratio 1:1 (chia seed to KOH) followed by carbonization at 800 ℃ for 2 hours. Adsorption study was carried out to study the effect of concentration (20 ppm to 300 ppm), temperature (30 ℃ to 50 ℃) and pH (pH 3 to pH 11) onto the as prepared carbons. Thermodynamic parameters such as standard Gibbs free energy (Δ𝐺°), standard enthalpy (Δ𝐻°) and standard entropy (Δ𝑆°) were calculated. Equilibrium adsorption data followed Langmuir isotherm while the kinetics followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The maximum adsorption capacity for the prepared activated carbon was 152.372 mg/g at 50 ℃. The adsorption of BPA onto the KOH-activated carbon from chia seed was found to be spontaneous in physisorption mechanism. The results proved chia seed derived activated carbon was effective in removing BPA from aqueous solution.en_US
