Abstract
This project is aimed at investigating and exploring the effectiveness of the graphic
calculator in the Mathematics education for SPM level. This study involves two school in
Sungai Petani, Kedah. The study sample consists of 60 form five students which were divided
into Control Group and Experimental Group. The Control Group was taught using traditional
method, whereas the experimental group was taught using the graphic calculator. Before and
after teaching and learning process, each group was given Pre-Test and Post-Test.. This study
methodology uses both quantitative and qualitative method. The quantitative data was
collected from the test archievements and questionnaires. The qualitative data was collected
by the students' response to the open-ended questions.
The statistical analysis by SPSS shows that the usage of the graphic calculator had a
positive effect both to learning and students' attitude towards Mathematics. Based on their
answer to the open-ended questions, most of them were interested and excited by the
exploration activities and it was suggested that the method should be carried on.
In future studies, the scope should be expanded to more students, more schools and
multiples topics. This method will give a more accurate and universal result. KPM should
also plan new module and text books involving the graphic calculator exploration activities in
suitable topics starting from primary school.
