Abstract
The purpose of this research is to study the effectiveness of microwave foaming technique in producing ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) foam by utilizing azordicarbomide (ADC) as blowing agent and dicumyl peroxide as crosslinking agent. Investigation has been done on feasibility of utilizing microwave radiation in producing the EVA foam. It was found that the microwave oven wasable to foam EVA by using sequential heating techinique, where the micro power is first used followed by conventional heating set by the microwave oven. Increasing the concerntration of blowing agent will contributed in increasing the average cell size, expansion ratio and number of cell per unit volume. It also decreased the amount of foam density, relative foam density, and foam hardness. The most optimum concerntration of the blowing agent is 12 phr.
