Abstract
Hajj is the fifth commandment in Islamic religion and all able bodied
Muslims must perform this obligation at least once in their whole life time.
Accessing information from explicit and tacit knowledge has some limitations
related to the availability, time and cost. Thus, it motivates this research to
implement the hybrid of rule base and frame based knowledge representation
approaches to improvise current limitations on using both methods separately. The
main objective of this research to apply the hybrid approach is to solve complex and
layered problem with regards to Hajj rituals. The Hajj knowledge based applies the
hybrid approach due to several factors such as more structured, support large number
of conditions and rules, support complex tasks, more flexible and easy to use. To
evaluate the performance on the effectiveness of the new approach, this research
conducted both lab experiment and usability study. The lab experiment requires the
respondents to solve two questions given using the Hajj knowledge based approach
and Internet. The usability study requires the respondents to score their level of
satisfaction in using the Hajj knowledge base. The result shows that the hybrid never
fails to solve problems given since this approach predetermine the problems and
solutions before transforming the knowledge into the Hajj knowledge base.
Searching using the Internet does not promise any solutions since the users might get
wrong answers or fails to find the problem solution. In addition, the approach
consumes less time to solve a problem as compared to search using the Internet. This
research also generates a prototype for the real Hajj knowledge based that attempts to
help people in learning Hajj rituals and solving problems in a more efficient way.
