Abstract
Existing specification of thennal comfort in building environment has often been criticised especially to fulfill the basic human needs. In hot-humid tropical climate, the combination of thennal environment factors such as hot sun radiation, high humidity and slow air movement are the main causes of human discomfort in enclos~d spaces. Various methods and thennal indices have been used for the description of the thennal environment and the stress imposed by the environment to capture the human thennal comfort. In chapter 2 and 3, a more detailed discussion is provided for the understanding of the thennal comfort and Malaysian climate. In this research, effects of air temperature on the indoor thennal comfort have been studied, focusing on thennal comfort time range in classroom. Therefore, ten concrete schools (JKR standard) in lpoh have been chosen at random. Data was collected during school hours from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm in hot weather. The result shows the indoor thennal comfort exist for several hours in morning session. The occupants feel discomfort after 11.00 am because of hot sun radiation and slow air movement. Finally, it is hoped that this initial result could be an important contribution as supportive indoor environment guidelines for future school design and forthcoming studies concerning the indoor thennal comfort especially for hot humid countries.
