Abstract
In this dissertation, two types of B-spline curves i.e. quadratic and cubic Bsplines are used for designing the Arabic fonts and scripts. It is also aimed to see the applications of 8-spline curve fittings in designing the Arabic scripts, programming has been done using MATLAB software. Firstly, it is intended to see the aspects of smoothness, original resemblance and segmentation of the Arabic fonts design by compari~g the usage of cubic to the corresponding quadratic B-spline curves. This is done in order to approximate Arabic scripts design when compared to its digitised image, using the B-spline curves fittings method by Rosenfeld and -Johnston. Secondly, this study also aims to find the difference when using the quadratic and cubic Bspline curves for designing when compared to quadratic and cubic Bezier curves. At the same time, it is also desired to see the difference when using Bspline curve fittings for designing the Arabic scripts as compared to using the parametric rational Bezier. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that the quadratic B-spline curves can be used to design Arabic fonts with narrow arcs, when compared with using the corresponding cubic B-spline. The quadratic B-splines have to ix IJUIIIt.Jc••.,aLt:: u•• .,,,,uuuHJt::s:s uy aaa1ng more control points, when dealing with greater radius arcs.
