Abstract
Engineering Geophysics is the application of geophysical methods to the investigation of subsurface materials and structures which are likely to have(significant) engineering applications.Various approach and technique is being used to study the physical & geotechnical properties of subsurface geology.Seismic is one of the well known geophysical methods being used for various applications such as constructions, earthquake study and other geotechnical investigation. Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) is one of the non-destructive seismic method that applying an s-wave velocity to gather data in the subsurface area.Surface wave methods are being used due to their non-destructive characteristic. The frequencies of surface waves generated by a specific source are critical for geotechnical applications because the penetration depth of surface waves is dependent on the frequency. Recently, interest in sources capable of generating low-frequency surface waves of deeper penetration has increased because applications such as seismic site classification require shear wave velocity (Vs) profiles to a minimum depth of 30m.The purpose of this study is to investigate the subsurface geological and geotechnical characteristics using MASW method by using SCPT / borehole log data as a reference results. The presence of heterogeneous and irregularity subsurface profile of case study A with data obtained are correspond the SCPT survey. On the other hand, data acquisition on case study B also correspond to the geological survey conducted by (Kamaludin,1990) about the subsurface characteristics.
