dc.description.abstractThis dissertation discusses about cubic Ball curve and its application in producing various font shapes. Initially, the properties of Bezier curve and Ball curw as well as their basis functions are investigated. This font generation method is known as generation of font outline and it involves more flexible Ball cubic functions as the basis. These functions, together with two control parameters (a and P) in each segment, are used in the optimum way to control curve segments locally between consecutive control points. In this dissertation, we will see the effect towards the curve shape if we change the values of those control parameters. These consecutive pieces of cun'c segments have proportional tangents at each control points, making it G1 continuous. The research" is continued by increasing the continuity to G2 with global control, but in\olving only one control parameter (aj ; i = 1,2,3 .... ) in each respective segments. By inserting the value of control parameter for the first segment (a I)' we can determine the value of control parameters in the rest of the segments (aj ; i = 2,3,4 ... ) as they are all linked to a I . Then, the effects of changing a I values towards the curve shape, besides the bound for a I values which can be inserted in order to get a fair curve will also be discussed. Lastly, we will generate fonts which are G1 and G2 continuous using different number of control points.en_US
