Abstract
In Malay culture, songket woven is one of the arts that exist in Malaysia a long time ago. Songket belongs to the brocade family of textiles, rich, luxurious, ceremonial fabric, hand woven in silk or cotton, and intricately patterned with gold and sometimes silver threads which stand out in subtle relief on the background cloth. In this research, we try to relate the songket motives with the concepts of geometry where the connection between culture (such as the art of songket) and mathematics (such as concepts of geometry) is a field of mathematics known as Ethnomathematics. Through this field, the writer attempted to prove the Malay's mathematical skills and way of thinking, especially in the past through the songket motives. Is the statement about the application of the geometry concept by the weaver from the early emergence of songket is true? Is it true that Malays are feeble-minded on learning and understanding the mathematics? This research was carried out to answer the above questions, where the way of Malay's mathematical thinking is see related by the generation of songket motif. Combinations of the geometry shapes produce the different symmetrical motif. All of this needs thinking skill and cleverness in mathematical knowledge to use by the wovers in creating the different songket motifs.
