dc.description.abstract | Internet Protocol Version 6 (lPv6), the replacement for the current version of IP will be deployed soon. A lot of new features have been implemented In this new protocol after considering the drawback of ~he current protocol. This 128-bit IPv6 address is very difficult to remember because of its hexadecimal representation and it is very long compare to current IPv4 address. This rese'-a--rch is conducted to overcome this problem by introducing the Host Name Resolution Protocol (HNRP) for IPv6 Addresses. HNRP will map the IPv6 addresses with the host name and update it to the corresponding DNS. User can use the host name instead of the IPv6 address because the host names are sierto remember. Beside that, this new protocol will make the system administrator's job much easier because the update of the host name into DNS will be done automatically without much intervention from the administrator. This new research will use the existing implementations that are neighbor discovery and ICMPv6 protocol and requires no changes at a client site. HNRP will automatically get all the active IPv6 nodes on a link and update it into DNS. The protocol will also do periodic checking and update if there is any changes to an IPv6 node. | en_US |
