Abstract
This report describes the design, development and the evaluation of an online multimedia tutorial system to teach Malay Braille. The eKodBrailleBMTutorial System is an open-access web-based tutorial system which is specially designed to teach, facilitate and support the learning of Kod Braille Bahasa Malaysia to individuals who are sighted. The targeted group includes special education teachers, pre-service teachers, and parents. Instruction in eKodBrailleBM consists of three phases: Modelling, Guided Practice and Independent Practice. Self-Learning Tutorials, Braille Simulator, Braille Exercises, Summative Self-Assessments and Braille Games are developed to support the instructional phases. The evaluation results indicated that the objectives of the project are met, which are: to make Braille learning more efficient, interesting and fun; to make Braille learning accessible to in-service teachers, pre-service teachers, parents, NGO personnel and other interested individuals throughout the country. In conclusion, with eKodBraille, unlimited number of people can be trained anytime, anywhere, without the need for face-to-face tutors. The system is accessible at http://ekodbraille.ses.usm.my.
