| dc.description.abstract | Measures of central tendency are measures which used to represent a data set numerically. This measure gives the center or location of the middle of distributions. There are three different commonly measures of central tendency; arithmetic mean, median and mode. In this project, we introduced one method as an alternative method for estimating measures of central tendency of an ungrouped data. This method is a combination between median and mean and called as alternative mean. This method can be used as an alternative method to estimate value of central tendency besides the three common measures. As we know, the median is suitable to use for measure the data which contain an extreme value. The advantage of using the median is that it is not influenced by outliers, but the arithmetic mean is more affected and sensitive by extreme value. Thus, from the comparison between the conventional method (arithmetic mean, median and mode) and alternative method, we can show that the alternative mean also can used as an alternative method to determine value of central tendency for skewed distribution. It is can shows that the value is quite similar with the median value. If we compare the methodology of alternative mean and methodology of median, the alternative mean used all the information (data) to calculate the value but the median just used the middle value in ordered data. | en_US |
