Abstract
Extraction of natural sand is less of an option nowadays with its restriction due to the environmental factor. The solution to this problem is through manufactured sand which can replace the natural sand for construction application especially in concrete making. Manufactured sand is produced from crushing granite rock by using Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher. For this research, two parameters are being taken into consideration which are feed rate and the rotor speed of the VSI Crusher to see how it affect the manufactured sand produced. There are three feed rate which are 8.8tph, 11tph and 16tph used while for the rotor speed, 35 Hz, 45 Hz and 55Hz are used. From the experimental work done, it was shown that running at 55 Hz will produce higher fine particle compared to other rotor speed. It is also shown that operating the Barmac at a feed rate of 8.8tph with 55 Hz rotor speed will reduce the void content of the particle through the Compacted and Un-compacted test. The result indicates that by increasing the rotor speed will increase fine particles produced and reduced the void content percentage. As for the feed rate, it will decrease the void percentage when the feed rate increased. Overall result shows that the feed rate and the rotor speed have a significant effects on the M-sand produced by the Barmac VSI Crusher.
