Abstract
Aedes aegypti is the main vector responsible for transmission of dengue and urban yellow fever. It is found around the world not only in the tropical regions but also beyond them, reaching up to temperate climates. In this dissertation the ecology of Aedes aegypti is incorporated into the framework of COHORT model, which is based on age-structured model to simulate cohort population of Aedes aegypti. The relationship between mortality rate, birth rate, habitat characteristics and mosquito populations are discussed via this model. The model incorporates explicitly the dependence on temperature. Temperature thresholds for the mosquito development and survival are computed as a function of temperature. These results suggest that prediction of mosquito populations could be better modeled by the inclusion of environmental variability such as temperature and carrying capacity.
