Abstract
This research studies the development of new prototype of visualization in support of movie retrieval. Today there are many methods that allow visualizing result of retrieval systems. With this knowledge the main goal is developing a 2D presentation of movies information from IMDB (Internet Movie Database) as our movie search engine with the aim to amplify the perception of users over retrieval environment while preserving the output quality at an acceptable meaningful level. Visualization ideas deal with visualization of information seeking results. These visualization techniques have been collected from the literature on how to map the results of the information retrieval process. We propose a 2D visual interface for mapping collections of movies and exploration of their related information to maximize density of needed information in a single page. For this purpose, we introduce a movie categorization scheme to help in navigation of users through the movies information. Our proposed method supports the results modification by using abstract shapes and coloJ,lr coding. A qualitative experimental test comparing the classic (traditional) interface of IMDB and visual interface is conducted. In this test user navigation, efficiency, density of useful information and user satisfaction are measured. Our graphical-based visualization provides a correct understanding of information. Therefore users can see information without reading them. This representation of search results provides useful hints to solve the problem of information overloading.
