Abstract
In this research, a total of eighteen compounds with twelve chalcones containing naphthalene moiety and six 4-chlorophenacyl benzoates were synthesized and crystallized by slow evaporation method. All crystal structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. In the series of chalcone containing naphthalene moiety, eight out of twelve compounds crystallized in the triclinic P1􀴤 space group while the remaining compounds crystallized in the monoclinic P21/c space group. The keto ethylenic group in all chalcone compounds adopts an s-cis conformation. The alkoxy chain is extended in all-trans conformation in the chalcone compounds except for compound III which assumes distorted conformation. For the series of 4-chlorophenacyl benzoates, three compounds were crystallized in the monoclinic P21/c space group and the other three were crystallized in the orthorhombic Pbca, orthorhombic P212121 and triclinic 􀜲1 space groups, respectively. Their molecular conformations show that the majority of the C(=O)―O―C―C(=O) central linkers are in the favorable conformations (nearly-planar or nearly-perpendicular conformation).
