Abstract
In this research, a total of eighteen compounds with twelve chalcones containing naphthalene moiety and six 4-chlorophenacyl benzoates were synthesized and crystallized by slow evaporation method. All crystal structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. In the series of chalcone containing naphthalene moiety, eight out of twelve compounds crystallized in the triclinic P1 space group while the remaining compounds crystallized in the monoclinic P21/c space group. The keto ethylenic group in all chalcone compounds adopts an s-cis conformation. The alkoxy chain is extended in all-trans conformation in the chalcone compounds except for compound III which assumes distorted conformation. For the series of 4-chlorophenacyl benzoates, three compounds were crystallized in the monoclinic P21/c space group and the other three were crystallized in the orthorhombic Pbca, orthorhombic P212121 and triclinic 1 space groups, respectively. Their molecular conformations show that the majority of the C(=O)―O―C―C(=O) central linkers are in the favorable conformations (nearly-planar or nearly-perpendicular conformation).
