Abstract
Geophysical investigation yielded importants information about geological-structural features of the area and the groundwater existance. This project has used a combination geophysical method of 2D electrical resistivity method and self potential method. The main objectives of this study is to investigate the geology profile and presence of groundwater at Permatang Pasir Bandar Baru Kedah and within USM Engineering Campus In electrical resistivity survey, two survey line were established in order to collect and cover the data at the particular site. Two type of array arrangements, which is Wenner Alpha and Wenner Schlumberger were used to collect the data by different pattern of reading in a single survey line. 32 metal electrodes has been used in both survey line which were connected by imaging cables to the resistivity meter (Allied Tigre Resistivity Meter). The measured resistivity value were processed by using ImagerPro 2006 software and further analyzation by using RES2DINV software for a better result display. Further imaging result of 2D will shows the pattern of geological structure of the area covered until 25.9 meters depth. Self potential method was done by 1125m2 area covered. The raw data was transferred to the Surfer 8 software to been analyzed to get a better result. From the result and conclusion, this study successfully achieve the objectives which the groundwater was observed at the PermatangPasir site until 8m depth from the surface, while from Surfer software result shows that within USM Engineering Campus also the presence of the groundwater are achieved.
