Abstract
The rapid growth in the Internet usage has brought in lots of conveniences and advantages for human beings. There are many biomedical databases published publicly over the Internet and these databases contain huge amounts of data. Therefore, when non-bioinformatics experts want to search information over the Internet, they need to search each database, one after another. As a result, the integration of the various databases into a single one is a solution to solve the problem. However, integrating public databases into a single application is not an easy task due to different formats and structures. In addition, biomedical terminologies from various public databases are not adopted as standard vocabularies. Therefore the objectives of this research are to integrate biomedical vocabulary with the integrated biomedical heterogeneous databases and to evaluate biomedical vocabulary in the integration biomedical heterogeneous databases by retrieving relevant data. The method of evaluating the performance of prototype was using "precision and recall" to evaluate the accuracy of the vocabulary in this prototype. The evaluation results show that the accuracy of retrieving relevant data via this prototype is higher than the benchmarking system.
