Abstract
Wear is the gradual removal of material obtained at contacting surfaces in relative motion. While friction results in important energy losses, wear is associated with increased maintenance costs and costly machine downtime. Wear and friction is one of the important things that we need to consider when designing a new product. We can know the limitation due to durability and reliability of a product through wear and friction. Wear can be determined through material removal from a surface due to contact between two surfaces. Friction is the force between two surfaces that prevent sample from sliding or moving. An experiment was conducted to determine wear and friction through Pin on Disc (POD) test. Four different sample were tested using POD method which are woven 200 linear, woven 200 hairy structure, chop strand and woven 600. Apart of that, the theoretical value have been calculated using Archard’ formula. The wear of the materials was determined by calculating its volume loss per unit sliding. A simulation was conducted using ANSYS software workbench to obtain the numerical value of wear and coefficient of friction And comparative study have been done between experimental, simulation and theoretical value.
