Abstract
Different organizations use different methodologies, approaches and tools for implementing a quality management and programmes for continuous quality improvement. The current project addresses the productivity improvement of a manual assembly line by making use of the Lean tool which is Six Sigma DMAIC Methodology. DMAIC (Define–Measure-Analyze-ImproveControl) is a well-structured methodology used to provide a framework to identify, quantify and eliminate sources of variation in an operational process to optimize the operation variables, improve and sustain performance. The aim of this project is to improve the production productivity performance of the Head Stack Assembly lines by the implementation of DMAIC & Witness Simulation. It involves the problem identification at the manual assembly lines of headstack product that has low productivity output due to the problem of high processing time regarding to the assembly process and providing recommendations to improve the efficiency of the current situation. There are bottleneck on certain processes and this situation slowdowns the production and may disrupts the process flow. Hence, the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define-MeasureAnalysis-Improve-Control) methodology is used to serve as a guideline for successfully identifying root cause of the selected problem and for understanding, implementing and evaluating solutions. From this research, an improvement has been suggested, in which a new model that can fix and improve the flow of production so that it is balanced. With the implementation of the DMAIC approach as a solution, the productivity of the monthly production performance have increased by 13.4% (93 120 units to 105 600 units) and this can help production to meet the increasing product sales each month and maintaining the productivity of the production line.
