Abstract
The purposes of these projects are for design electronic ballast for discharge lamp. This ballast involved a converter from an AC source to a DC voltage. The DC voltage will invert into sinusoid wave AC voltage with a high frequency and send it to the lamps. Before convert AC to DC, EMI filter will be include to decrease an electromagnetic inference. It’s also used PWM switching to firing IGBT in inverter circuit. There is a protection and control system to protect this system from over voltage and other abnormal conditions. The main benefits of this project are to increase lamp and ballast overall efficiency and increased lamp life. It’s also improvement in lighting quality. This project begins with understanding theory and concept of the lamp and ballast system. In this way, we can figure out how we can design the circuit. In this project, PSIM is used to stimulate circuit and make sure which output and type of component are uses in this project. Experiments are done to whole of the circuit such as EMI filter, full bridge rectifier, half bridge inverter and also PWM switching circuit. There are two level of the experiment such as part by part experiment and overall. Results from the experiments are monitored in oscilloscope and voltmeter. In this thesis also have measurement to differentiate between theory and result. Only two circuits have get result same as the stimulation. But the other one not function properly. This will affect an overall experiments and still in inspection.
