Abstract
This dissertation presents the design of an active Gilbert downconversion mixer in the RF receiver architecture for Wide-Band Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) application. The mixer was designed using the Silterra’s CMOS 0.18𝜇𝑚 process with 1.8𝑉 supply voltage. Cadence SpectreRF simulator was used as the design tool for this project. For the 2.14𝐺𝐻𝑧 WCDMA RF and a 2.16𝐺𝐻𝑧 LO input, an 20𝑀𝐻𝑧 signal IF was generated. The mixer is able to provide a voltage gain of 2.326𝑑𝐵 with a current of 3.169𝑚𝐴, input intercept point (𝐼𝐼𝑃 ) of is 1.57𝑑𝐵𝑚 and a 1𝑑𝐵 compression point of −8.78𝑑𝐵𝑚. The proposed mixer also shows low noise figure of 8.258𝑑𝐵.
