Abstract
This project is about the wireless communication in embedded system design. The embedded system design used for this project is temperature and humidity control using 8 bits microcontroller and SHT 75 sensor, while Wi-Fi is used as a medium for wireless communication. Wi-Fi is considered as the IEEE 802.11 standard W-LAN (Wireless Local Area Network) solution. For this project, a Wi-Fi module is needed for temperature and humidity’s data transmission and detected by wireless adaptor of computer. The Wi-Fi module used is an ultimate in flexibility, security and performance in embedded wireless networking by Lanronix product, MatchPort b/g Wireless Device Server. It enables to build wireless networking into virtually any electronic device with serial interface. For the embedded system, an ATmega8 low power CMOS 8 bits microcontroller by ATMEL is used which it accept either assembly language or C language for writing instruction. AVRStudio 4 software is used for writing, compiling and installing the codes into microcontroller through AVRISP mkII programmer. The SHT 75 sensor is use to sense surrounding’s temperature and humidity and it is a digital sensor with built in Analog-to-Digital converter. The main data collection of this project is the average maximum range of the Wi-Fi transmission by MatchPort b/g Wireless Device Server with different WLAN transmission rate. The changes of temperature and humidity with time (indoor and outdoor) data collection are taken to see whether sensor can show a stable result for a long period of time. The output readings will show in HyperTerminal in Window XP.
