Abstract
The machine vision industry is blooming in this era. Therefore, knowledge about this field is very important for engineers and researchers in order to further enhance this technology. However, the problem currently is that undergraduates do not tend to choose machine vision as a learning subject. Therefore, line scan camera is introduced and aimed to provide a platform for undergraduates to explore and develop the knowledge about machine vision. The aspiration of this project is to provide a pathway for undergraduates to learn machine vision in a very effective method where they were taught by using different learning patterns. Findings about top-down and bottom-up teaching methods collaborate with inductive and deductive learning blend together well to perform the best in building up knowledge of that subject. Exercises about hardware and software implementation are developed in the form of laboratory module in this project. The exercises aim to equip undergraduates to improve their practical skills. Five situations related to machine vision are testified to ensure that the basic knowledge of lighting conditions, conveyor belt speed, line image acquisition rate, software parameters and responding factors are delivered to the dergraduates clearly. Laboratory modules were given to 16 respondents to be assessed in a practical way. The feedbacks were given by the respondents to improve this module. Next, an application of a line scan camera system was designed to check the quantity of M&M’s chocolate in one packet. The system delivers a promising result by counting the amount of chocolates in a packet correctly. With the improvement of this course module, the undergraduates will be benefited if they undergo the course. Hence, they can build a better future in the machine vision industry.
