Abstract
Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) has emerged as one of most promising candidates’ technologies for enhancing the spectrum utilization and energy
efficiency of future wireless systems. The fast evolution of wireless communication technology has prompted the study of RIS as an innovative way to improve network performance. The main challenges are finding the best ways for the Access Point (AP) and RIS to direct signals to maximize the signal strength at the user equipment (UE) and analysing how well the system performs on indoor environment network using two different common frequency of Wi-Fi. Hence, this project research is to create a software model for analysing the performance of RIS-assisted wireless networks using MATLAB, with a particular emphasis on finding crucial factors that have a substantial influence on system performance. The modelling software is called multiple-input single-output (MISO) to aid in understanding and conceptualizing about this project. The method used in this project involving the application of statistical properties of the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the UE to derive analytical approximations for system performance measures, such as Bit Error Rate (BER), data rate, average data rate and signal strength. Examination of these factors and performance shows that using a RIS greatly improves performance, with signal strength increasing significantly. The improvements from the RIS are more substantial than adding more antennas to the AP.
