Abstract
Agarwood is produced by certain tree in response to a fungal infection. The fragrant of the agarwood when burnt attracts a lot of perfume company to harvest them and use it as a part of their formula. The creation of agarwood had been modernized by inducing the infection in the tree. this is done by drilling into the tree and injecting a concoction to invoke the infection. The act of drilling on the tree is usually done by a person. This process however, can be automated using a climbing robot, a drilling mechanism and a sensor. Because a lot of climbing robot had already been made, a drilling mechanism that is fully equipped with sensors just has to be mounted on these said robots. The aim of this project is to design such a mechanism that will allow it to be mounted on a robot. The idea of the mechanism is to have a drill that sits on top of a sliding platform and is then powered by a linear actuator to push and pull it back. This was accomplished by 3d printing a chassis for the linear actuator and mounting a drawer slider to act as the sliding platform. The Whole mechanism will be controlled by an Arduino mega which features a dualshock controller for interfacing with the mechanism as well as an LCD display which features a simple text-based interface(TUI). This project will allow the automation of the drilling process in the agarwood industry.
