Abstract
This paper presents a 100kW grid connected photovoltaic system design by using MATLAB Simulink. The maximum power generated by the PV system is delivered to the three-phase AC utility grid without lowering the level of the power that is being injected. A perturb & observe (P&O) algorithm and incremental conductance is used in this grid connected PV system design because it is simpler and low-cost implementation. A Boost converter is designed to boost solar panel output voltage to a higher constant DC voltage. The wye-connection of LCL filter is used for filtering the high-frequency noise and ripple in the output voltage while d-q control method is used as controller to control the voltage and current produced by 2-level 3-phase inverter. Analysis on the total harmonic distortion of the inverter and grid current by varying the irradiation condition in order to study the best algorithm and inverter control method. From the result obtained, the incremental conductance is better compared to the perturb and observe algorithm that is used in the MPPT. The minimum irradiation to get the THD value which followed the IEE 519 standard is when the irradiation is at 800 W/𝑚2.
