dc.description.abstractIn low power electronics applications, many electronics circuitry such as wireless sensors and etc. are invented. To make this product portable, engineers use a simple battery to power it. However, this battery is not environmentally green and is a source of pollution. One of the alternatives is to use a rechargeable battery which can be use in longer period compared to non-rechargeable battery. To implement a green technology, an alternative source could be use to charge the rechargeable battery. As been found by a lot of researchers, solar energy is the most effective power generation among the other alternative energy source. The obvious disadvantage with the alternative energy is its voltage is an unregulated voltage which is not suitable for charging the rechargeable battery. Thus, a control circuit is needed in order to convert the unregulated source into a more regulated voltage, to be implemented in the rechargeable battery application. For that purpose, this project has taken the very first step towards a greener technology by designing the control circuit which is the DC-DC buck converter. The type of converter and the parameters used in this project was chosen after making some consideration about the photovoltaic (PV) voltage level and the rechargeable battery requirement.
