Abstract
In designing high voltage apparatus such as HV power line conductors, the calculation of electric field is really important to ensure that the design and configurations are not exceeding its critical value of electric field distribution that can cause partial discharge and breakdown of the system. In this project, the objectives is to examine the electric field distribution for various sphere gaps configurations and power line conductor with and without supporting tower. The first case study is on the non-uniform electric field configuration of sphere-sphere electrode in a faraday cage. The second case is the application of the sphere-sphere electrode configurations that have been applied to 3-phase power conductor line tower. Basically, uniform electric field is described as the distribution between two infinite parallel plates or two spheres of equal diameters when gap is distance is less than the diameter of the spheres. To analyze the electric field distribution of sphere-sphere electrode configuration, it need to be compared with the critical values of electric field distribution which can be obtain by simulate or calculate the uniform field of plane-plane configuration. In order to analyze different shape of electric field distribution, the electrodes distance are varies while the diameter and voltage apply has been fixed at a certain value. Eventually, comparison of the simulation is done by comparing the field along a line of the uniform field of electric field distribution. If gap distance between electrodes is far, the electric field distribution generated is less compared to the shorter gaps distance. As the result, the study on the simulation of electric field distribution in air under various electrode configurations is successfully achieved.
