Abstract
Malaysia is located in the equatorial region where the natural landscapes are mostly covered with the tropical rainforests. While facing the human-wildlife conflict with the long-tailed macaques, the long-tailed macaques become more aggressive when they are around us. A pest control repeller is used against the monkey. It is a substance or device designed to keep the pest away from disturbing the human. The traditional approaches such as electric fences, artificial repellent, and acoustic system has shown to be lessen in effectiveness over the time as they learn to avoid the repellent range area. With today’s technology, the intrusion detection system can be implemented through ML while the intrusion repellent system can be implemented using ultrasonic frequency system which is a more humane way and causing no harm to the animals. The objectives of the project are to design an ultrasonic animal repellent system, aiming for a frequency of 45kHz with a focus on using a buzzer to produce the output and explore the range of effectiveness of motion detection and repellent system. The integration of a Raspberry Pi 4 microprocessor, 5V power supply, webcam, and piezo buzzer had been implemented in this project. The custom monkey dataset model using YOLOv8 shows a high confidence score with above than 0.8 where the predict trained dataset shown confidence score of 0.87, 0.86, and 0.92. The calculated precision score from confusion matrix conveys that the model has 0.845 precision hence, it reflects the accuracy of the predicted monkey. The hardware testing results indicate that the piezo buzzer has succeeded in producing sound consistently upon detecting the monkey, but the webcam's detectionrange is limited to below than 2.5m with limitation of detecting monkey as a monkey. In a nutshell, the project objectives are successfully achieved as the piezo buzzer successfully produced the ultrasonic frequency consistently when it detects the monkey and the results of effectiveness range for monkey intrusion detection and repellent system is explored.
