Abstract
Today’s modern society is strongly dependent on electricity. As electricity has become part and parcel of everyone’s life, disruptions to power lines may cause unwanted havoc to customer. Hence, economic power production should be focused. MATLAB computer programming is used to analyze most economic distribution of the output of a plant and find the real and reactive power scheduling of each power plant in such as way as to achieve minimum cost of maximum power delivery. The most noticeable advantage of introduction to MATLAB program in the field of power economic dispatch system has been the ability to study the plant’s performance prior to the construction phase. The results of the simulation can be used to change and adjust the plant layout to match the pre-designed requirements. The aim of this project is to develop a MATLAB program to power economic dispatch system as an alternative teaching material. The project will involve three phases. The first phase will look at how the user input the respective data of power generation. User can choose to key in the data or open an exist file containing the data. In the second phase, a combination of many individual programs are ran to find the optimal dispatch of generation, to evaluate transmission loss B coefficient, and to minimize generating cost. All the bus output result is produced in a tabulated form. In the final stage, analysis will be performed by using the results in previous stage to show the effect of power economic dispatch on generating cost with the optimum scheduling of generator. Besides, the comparison of saving between economic load dispatch including losses and neglecting losses will also be made. Results form this project can be used to provide power scheduling for power plant in an effort to minimize cost of power delivery.
