Colour blindness is a common vision condition that affects approximately 8% of men and 0.5% of women worldwide. Existing solutions partly address this condition but some lack functionality or require high costs or specific devices. This project introduces a user-friendly colour-blind helper mobile application, designed for Android using Android Studio and Kotlin programming language to assist individuals with colour vision deficiency (CVD) in daily life, such as identifying the condition of ingredients or colour coded information. The application offers features like colour identification, colour blindness simulation, recolouring, and colour-blind assessment. The app aims to improve the quality of life for colour-blind individuals by providing an affordable and portable tool. Users can differentiate various colours using the colour identification feature, which provides various colour name pack options and accurate RGB and hexadecimal codes. Additionally, the recolouring feature, implemented using the Daltonization algorithm, enhances their ability to discriminate colours. The app also raises awareness about colour blindness by providing a colour blindness simulation feature, allowing the public to understand how individuals with CVD perceive the world. The colour-blind assessment utilizes the Ishihara plates test can efficiently diagnose red-green CVD. After successful implementation, user testing was conducted using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and interviews with 20 participants to gain feedback, leading to further improvement in colour-blind assessment. In short, the development of a user-friendly colour-blind helper mobile application represents a significant step forward in addressing the needs of colour blind individuals. The application’s features offer a practical solution to enhance colour discrimination and improve the overall user experience for colour-blind individuals.
