Abstract
LoRa ( short “Long Range) is the technology that was initially developed by France company, Cycleo and later acquired by Semtech for its patent. Lora uses a spread spectrum modulation technique derived from chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technology. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as Drone, is an aircraft that develops without a pilot on board. UAV based on LoRa is the technology that combines UAV with LoRa hardware to improve power consumption efficiency and cover flying range. There are many researchers doing UAVs based on LoRa communication in real-time deployment. Application of UAV based on LoRa gives lots of benefits in many areas. Therefore, an evaluation of LoRa performance needs to be conducted to get the optimum setting to go beyond the limit. Since many research papers focus on LoRa physical layer setting, I experimented with changing antenna gain, angle, and transmission power in a direct line-of-sight and obstacles environment. The finding of this study is to see the effect of changing antenna gain, antenna angle and transmission power in evaluating LoRa communication performance. In term of the LoRa signal strength (RSSI values) and packet reception rate (PRR). By the end of the study, I can determine the optimized parameters to be applied for the UAV-based LoRa communication network.
