Generally, portal frame structures are used in the construction of a long span building such as industrial building, warehouse, hall and hangar. Portal frame is suitable for the buildings because its have large space at the top. Although it is relatively expensive, but the portal frame is quite easy to construct. The hall of Kuala Terengganu court has been chosen as a case study. The hall is 25.2m span with 16.1m height and 41m long. The loads applied to the portal frame are dead load, live load and wind load. The wind load are according to MS 1533 : 2002 and BS 6399 : Part 2 : 1995. The wind load considerations are very important because wind pressure in Malaysia are different than others countries in Europe. Analysis portal frame were carried out by computer software called Structural Analysis (Aslam Kassimali, 1999) to get the reactions and the moments at the supports. Two methods are used in the design of the portal frame to get the size of sections. The methods are manually and S-Frame computer software. The structural steel design were refer to BS 5950 : Part 1 : 2000. Result shows that the size of section from manually calculation are 838 X 292 X 176 kg UB and S-Frame software is 914 X 419 X 343 kg UB.
