Abstract
In 2020, the highly contagious COVID-19 outbreak has forced new norms to be adopted all over the world. The skyrocketing cases prompted the Malaysian government to enforce the rule that all attendance information such as name and contact number must be recorded before entering a business premise, preceded by the temperature screening process and sanitizing hands with provided hand sanitizers. Therefore, this project aims to develop a contactless smart system that carries out the mentioned processes. The temperature scanner with rack-and-pinion mechanism is designed to be adjustable to the individual’s height for measuring temperature, whereas the dispenser automatically dispenses the right amount of sanitizer through crank-rocker mechanism. The data profiling stage takes place which is software-based where individuals show a tag with their name and contact number. The camera where the system is running captures the text on the tag via optical character recognition and saves the attendance data to a local database. The whole system is controlled with the Arduino MEGA 2560 microcontroller. The hardware designed is 3D printed, whereas the software is programmed with Python programming language. The prototype of the whole system is assembled and tested. The temperature measurements taken are accurate with error deviation within ±0.2 °C and automatically aligns at forehead height. The sanitizer dispenses enough sanitizer with sufficient force for either water or gel-based sanitizer. The data profiling stage has an accuracy of 91.67 % and above under different lighting conditions within distances 10 cm to 20 cm; and works for tags in printed or digital form. All objectives are achieved.
