Abstract
Stroke is a medical condition that occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, causing brain cell to be deprived of oxygen and nutrients. Hand
rehabilitation is needed to help stroke patients regain the use of their hands and fingers by promoting the recovery of the affected neural pathways. Thus, this thesis presents the design and development of a soft robotic hand rehabilitation glove. The hand rehabilitation glove is divided into three parts namely mechanical design of soft actuator, embedded system, and IoT framework. The rehabilitation glove has an actuator made of soft rubber that is actuated by a pneumatic system. The use of a flex sensor allows the glove to bend the desired position automatically. A smartphone application is developed to monitor the number of bends on the glove. Graphical User Interface (GUI) is designed using ESP32 for visual output to the user. The developed glove system cannot perform perfectly but suggestions are given for improvements. The reasons for the imperfections are analyzed and discussed.
