Abstract
Understanding the electricity consumption of each household appliance is often crucial in effectively managing domestic power usage. This project explores a
low-cost, user-friendly IoT-based system for monitoring, controlling, and analysing home appliance power consumption in Malaysian households. The system effectively utilizes hardware and software components to monitor and control appliances, providing users with real-time data and detailed insights into their energy consumption. The project aims to address the pressing need for efficient energy management in Malaysian households by providing a solution that enables consumers to make informed decisions about their energy usage, leading to reduced costs and a greener environment. The system leverages a combination of sensors, including PZEM-004T, ZMPT101B, and SCT013-030, along with a NodeMCU ESP32 microcontroller, to collect and analyse data. The user interface, built on the Blynk platform, provides users with a comprehensive dashboard for monitoring appliance usage, real-time data visualization, and remote-control capabilities. The system's performance was validated through testing and comparisons with digital multimeters. The results highlight the accuracy and reliability of the system in measuring electrical parameters, and the user-friendliness of the interface. The system successfully addresses the limitations of existing solutions, offering features such as schedule load control, real-time voltage measurement, and a low-cost design. Overall, the project
successfully demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of an IoT-based solution for home appliance control and energy management. The system provides users with the necessary tools to understand and manage their energy consumption efficiently, contributing towards a more sustainable future.
