| dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the display order of museum displays in selected national museums in peninsular malaysia. Specifically, it investigates the order of permanent museum displays in the museum dioramas, using a case-study approach to analyse how the narrative of malay identities and malayness are represented in the malaysian nation-state framework. The main problem identified is that museum texts such as museum displays in the national museum spaces are deeply influenced by institutional power, especially on the narratives of describing malay identity in the nation state. The arrangement of museum artefacts and dominant narratives construct the malay- muslim framework. National museums as cultural authorities normalize and govern the reality and truth of the malay identity in malaysia. The national museum display is to be repurposed to represent the contemporary malay muslim framework in the study. The national museum exhibitions, it normalizes the malay muslim through curated national museum narratives. This study has three objectives: 1. To examine the portrayal of malay identities in the national museums in peninsular malaysia. 2. To understand the historical narratives for the malay identity in the museum display and dioramas of the national museum in malaysia 3. To construct a typology of discourses for the malay history in the malaysia national museums. To achieve the objectives, this study employed an inductive social research strategy through qualitative research methods. | |
