Abstract
Electrical power is one of the greatest treasures that science has brought to humanity. It has played an important role in this modern life, and it is difficult to imagine a world without it. However, in today’s fast-paced world, the population is expanding while conventional energy sources are depleting. The increased use of energy has brought an energy crisis in recent years. Therefore, in order to solve this issue, some approaches must be applied for optimizing the use of conventional energy sources. In this project, a non-conventional power generation system is suggested that generates electrical power without utilizing any conventional sources. The focus is on how to make use of the energy that is lost when a vehicle passes over a speed breaker. Nowadays, there are quite a lot of vehicles on the road that use kinetic energy just to travel from one point to another. If, on the other hand, the kinetic energy could be transformed into some useful electrical power, and the generated electrical power could be stored or supplied to power the load like street lights, energy can be conserved. There are numerous mechanisms developed for generating electrical power from speed breakers and the rack and pinion mechanism is chosen since it is the simplest to implement. The kinetic energy from the vehicles will be converted to mechanical energy underneath the rack and pinion mechanism when the speed breaker is compressed, and a generator will convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy. The average electrical power generated by the compression of range of 4N to 6N is 63.19275µW to 6635.90925µW on single compression.
