Abstract
Employees’ workplace green behaviour forms an essential basis for obtaining sustainable development and long-term benefit for higher education institutions in china. The issue of sustainable development in higher education institutions has received an increasing amount of attention since higher education institutions have a substantial social and environmental influence on society in both the immediate and extended future. Although various theoretical foundations are beneficial in understanding the importance of sustainability, employees’ green behaviour in workplace of higher education institutions has yet to be explored in china. Drawing from the stimulus-organism-response theory (sor) and social cognitive theory (sct), this research tests a conceptual model that seeks to examine the mediating role of environmental passion and self-identity between environmentally-specific servant leadership, collectivism-based organizational culture, and green empowerment on employees’ workplace green behaviour within higher education institutions in china. This study also recognizes the importance of team cohesion as the boundary condition between environmental self-identity and employees’ workplace green behaviour. In this study, a cross sectional research design with purposive sampling was used to collect data from 385 mid-level managers working in higher education institutions in china.
