Abstract
Located near the infamous ‘Golden-Triangle’ region, Malaysia has experienced significant issues with the abuse and trafficking of illicit psychoactive substances. Drugs such as heroin and methamphetamine that come from the golden triangle have a long history in Malaysia, therefore there is a lot of data on their use. While the context of cocaine use is still poorly known in Southeast Asia since the smuggling and the use of cocaine is still new and this type of drug does not come from the golden triangle area. Hence, due to this gap, the aim of this study is to describe the context of cocaine use in Malaysia. While the study also determined cocaine using motives, health issues in terms of its dependence and withdrawal causing effects, its purity level and distribution cadre. Sixteen informants who self-reported to have used cocaine were recruited through key-informants and interviewed through a virtual platform once informed consent was elicited.
