Abstract
A compact printed ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna with dual band-notched characteristic is presented. The main proposed of this project is to avoid interference between the UWB and the existing WLAN system by having the band-notched characteristic. The dual band-notched characteristic is achieved by etching a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) inside the patch of the monopole antenna. The project is designed and simulated by using the CST Microwave Studio. After completing the simulation part, the final design will be fabricated at the PCB laboratory and the characteristics of the antenna such as S parameter and radiation pattern were measured. The simulation and measurement result will be analyzed and compared. Based on the software simulation result, at the resonant frequency of 5 GHz, the designed antenna has an impedance bandwidth from 2.51 GHz to 5.96 GHz except two reject frequencies of 3.094-3.2247 GHz and 4.3375-4.7928 GHz while the bandwidth for the measurement is 3.04 GHz which is 11.8% different. The 3D far-field shows the radiation pattern of the designed antenna is omnidirectional. Besides that, the gain for the simulation and measurement are 3.192 dB and 5.73 dB, respectively. In overall, most of the design specifications are met
