dc.description.abstractOne of the foremost global challenges today is climate change, with global warming posing the greatest environmental threat to nations worldwide. The rapid advancement of economic complexity may exacerbate this issue, particularly in developing countries. To address the contradictions between economic complexity and environmental degradation, this study investigates the moderating role of green energy, green innovation, and institutional quality in the relationship between economic complexity and environmental degradation from 2008 to 2021 in developing countries. Employing generalized method of moments (gmm), the results provide supportive evidence, showing that green energy consumption green innovation and institutional quality can significantly mitigate the negative impact of economic complexity on the environment, with the quality of institutions playing a crucial role in this moderating effect. In other words, if a country is able to increase the utilization of green energy and enhance innovation capacity while improving institutional quality, economic complexity may not only avoid exacerbating environmental degradation but could also potentially contribute to environmental improvement.
