The effect of climate change as a result of greenhouse gas emission can be easily seen across the globe. Carbon dioxide, which is one of the most potent greenhouse gases is released from anthropogenic activities through combustion of fossil fuels for energy. There is an increasing interest to migrate from fossil fuel energy dependency to a greener hydrogen economy. To meet this challenge, hydrogen should be made cheap and readily available for both industrial and public consumption. In this research, the possibility of recovering and purifying hydrogen from methanol purge gas is explored. The polyetherimide membrane was used to achieve highly purified hydrogen from methanol purge gas (MPG) containing hydrogen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, carbon monoxide and methane gas. The novelty of this research is that a penta-nary component of MPG mixture was applied in Mathcad and Design Expert software in which three input parameters which are membrane area, membrane thickness and stage cut were varied in order to achieve maximum hydrogen purity and recovery. The model showed MAPE error of 5.06% thereby suggesting that the complete mixing model was suitable for enriching hydrogen from methanol purge gas using membrane. The simulation runs using Design Expert yielded semi empirical correlations capable of producing accurate prediction as R2 > 0.973 and P-value ≤ 0.002 for all the eight responses. When the membrane parameters were optimized at 80.0 cm membrane area, 0.25 um membrane thickness and 0.3395 stage cut, the maximum hydrogen purity and recovery from this model achieved 99.99% and 53.89%, respectively
