This project is about to design a high speed digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for wireless system nowadays. A wireless device consists of a receiver and a transmitter. High resolution DAC and analog-to-digital converter (ADC) are required in this wireless communication to meet challenging signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR), and distortion specification. DAC consists in a transmitter part is a device for converting a digital code to an analog signal. Meanwhile ADC consists in receiver part is a device that performs the reverse operation. In this project, current-steering DAC was chose since it is suitable for high-speed high-resolution applications. A 14-bit resolution high speed digital-to-analog converter with 400Msps update rate is designed in this project. The layout of the DAC is designed by using Orcad9.2 software and then fabricated on the Printed Circuit Board (PCB). All the surface mount devices will be soldered onto the PCB. After that, a test and measurement will be done together with ADC to make sure that the DAC is function properly. The design of high speed digital-to-analog converter is expected to improve the application of wireless system for future usage.
