Abstract
With the ever increasing demand for energy, comes with higher generating need of electrical energy. This large generation of electrical energy comes with a multitude of problems, not only on the environmental side due to the large amount of carbon dioxide emitted when not using renewable energy, but also the ampacity issues of transmission lines. This thesis begins with providing background research towards the structure of power systems and transmission line ratings and how DTR system can help in mitigating this problems. This report touches upon the IEEE 738 standard, Monte Carlo Simulations and this report details on the methodology used in this thesis by doing reliability analysis on power systems using STR technology and DTR technology. The results are presented and discussed, comparing obtained results with theoretical. It can be see that the project does adhere to other studies that DTR technology has a beneficial impact on existing power systems. The overall conclusion is written where the future work such as using different transmission line model and algorithm for meteorological data are also discussed to improve upon this project.
