Abstract
Simple Blimp Control System (SBCS) with camera is an appropriate method for conducts low altitude surveillance, observation, as well as real time monitoring. Surveillance requires a stable platform to guarantee for the quality of captured images and videos. In SBCS, helium gas provides buoyancy force to lift the blimp to a desired altitude. SBCS is designed based on unconventional blimp design, which is double envelope design. The design of SBCS is separate into few parts. They include design of blimp envelope, design of gondola, design of motion control mechanism. For the motion control, the SBCS is divided into manual control and automatic control. Manual
control is an open-loop control system, which directly receiving control signal from computer without any feedback signals. Automatic control is a closed-loop control system, which controls the altitude and heading direction of the blimp by using feedback sensors. For surveillance purpose, a wireless camera is installed on the blimp to capture images and videos. The live video will be fed to the computer for real time monitoring. The video also can be recorded and saved into computer. SolidWorks software is used to design the structural of SBCS. All the operations of SBCS are controlled by Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC), which is programmed by using MPLab software. The developed SBCS achieved high stability and accurate navigationto ensure the desired surveillance effect is achieved.
