Abstract
Mobile objects are software modules that move between two or more applications across the network boundary. They offer significant improvements over conventional client-server technology in terms of its mobility, resource sharing and fault tolerance. The aim of this project is to study the concept and application of mobile object technology. As a proof of concept, a character recognition system has been developed using mobile object technology. This system implements Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to perform the character recognition processing. Java programming language has been used for developing this system due to the support for extensive networking Application Programming Interface (API). At the end of this project, the results show that users of this system are able to retrieve the mobile object from the remote source and the character recognition processing can be performed in their local computing environment. In conclusion, the designed mobile object based character recognition system can act as a mobile object and this system simplifies the resource sharing over the network.
