Abstract
Microrelay is a micro-scale electrical switch that opens and closes under the control of another electrical circuit. In this project, an existing electromagnetic microrelay was successfully designed and analyzed. The two dimensional (2D) model of the microrelay which comprises of two permanent magnets, a planar coil, an armature and the surrounding air was modeled using ANSYS software. The structural was designed, mathematically analyzed and simulated via Finite-Element Analysis (FEA). The simulation results show the magnetic flux pattern obtained depending upon geometrical parameter choices and the operating current. Simulation gain that obtained was useful for device analyses before implementing the fabrication process. Therefore, this medium-power electromagnetic microrelay is very suitable for portable or self- energizing devices, Automated Test Equipments (ATE), Radio Frequency (RF) telecommunication systems, instrumentation and other possible applications.
