This study aims to develop a CMOS-based rectifier that maximizes the conversion of RF energy to DC output with a great power conversion efficiency (PCE) that can be used for low power consumption devices and able to operate across a wide range of frequencies. Traditional diode-based rectifier is less efficient due to its high voltage drop and thus a CMOS-based rectifier is useful in reducing the voltage drop and increasing the efficiency. A conventional cross-coupled rectifier is already efficient, but a body biasing technique can be utilized to further decrease the threshold voltage and leakage current of the rectifier. Therefore, the conventional circuit and the circuit with body biasing will be simulated using Silterra 180nm technology in the Cadence Virtuoso software to compare their performance in power efficiency conversion (PCE) and the voltage conversion efficiency (VCE). The rectifier design will be evaluated using different design variables such as input power, load resistance, input frequency and number of stages. Finally, a cross-coupled rectifier with body biasing technique that achieves a peak PCE of 76.93% and VCE of 82.6% at an input power of 13dBm, 953MHz input frequency and a 10kΩ load. By cascading the proposed rectifier into 5 stages, the rectifier has produced a higher output voltage at 13dBm and 100kΩ load, which is 9.91V compared to the single stage amplifier that produces output voltage of 2.041V.
